Vysoké nad Jizerou
It was founded in the first half of the 14th century on a table-land in 703 metres above the sea-level. From here there is a wonderful view of the western part of Krkonoše Mountains.
Long winters, plenty of snow and snow-banks, fresh air, big distance from the railway and until recently common cut-off from the other world also in road traffic - all this gave the small town curious character of its social and cultural life.
In 1834 the town was affected by a huge fire (147 houses were destroyed), preserved there stayed some of the timbered houses of Krkonoše Mountains type and the baroque St. Catherine’s church.
Vysoké nad Jizerou has also a rich skiing tradition.
In 1903 they founded with help of Jilemnice skiers the third Ski club ever in the Czech country.
Nowadays the small town is a sought after recreation place with beautiful table-land, clean mountain air and wonderful sight.
Culture: town museum (ethnographic collections, mechanical Christmas crib, traditional furniture, history of skiing, amateur theatricals show of village ensembles at "Theatre autumn of the Krakonoš (Mountain Giant)", town library.

Hiking: in this case quite a number of beautiful trips can be presented both to Giant Mountains ridges (Sněžka, the springs of Elbe river, Kotel, Kozí hřbety (ridges in Krkonoše), Harrachov, Špindlerův Mlýn) and to Jizerské hory (Smědava, Jizerka, water reservoir Souš, observation tower Smrk, Ještěd). Also on shorter trips you will appreciate the soft character of surrounding country – mechanical Christmas crib in Vodseďálka house, water mill in Roztoky, Paseky nad Jizerou (land of the Remote patriots), observation tower Štěpánka, stalactite caves Bozkov, Riegr’s nature trail along the Jizera river (Semily) and others.
